VICTORIAN FAUX MAPLE DRESSING CHEST. ORIGINAL PAINT. Circa 1880
This very striking Victorian Dressing Chest dates from circa 1880. It is painted with a faux maple effect and highlighted with line decoration and corner motifs. The colour has faded beautifully over the years.
The Dressing Chest retains its original brass handles (one loop missing). There are dove-tailed joints to the drawers. The Mirror is fully adjustable. There is a lift-up section just beneath the Mirror.
As part of its charm we have not attempted to repair or repaint the knocks and bumps the Dressing Chest has received over its long and interesting life. Handwritten, in pencil, beneath the Mirror section, is the name Webster which may well have been the name of the family who originally ordered the piece.
It is original throughout.
