CESAR BAGARD of NANCY CARVED FRUITWOOD & GILT MIRROR. 18th Century.
This wonderful 18th Century French Carved Fruitwood & Gilt Dressing Mirror bears an old Christie’s Catalogue reference from July 1890 which reads: Lot 95 Louis XIV Carved andGilt Wood Toilet Glass by Bagard de Nancy – from a house at Versailles”.
The Mirror, which is displayed on a mahogany stand (not included), has a hanging hook but is missing its easel support.
The Glass appears to be original and, as can be seen at its base, bears the expected signs of wear. The Frame is in overall good order and displays a warmth that is only gained after decades of loving care.
A similar Mirror was sold at Sotheby’s Auction on 28 April 2010.
