19th CENTURY CARVED VIZAGAPATAM CHESS SET.
This beautifully carved Ivory Chess Set, probably from Vizagapatam, dates from the 19th Century. The pieces have screw threads, with the larger pieces being in three sections. The Castles have detachable pennants.
The most obvious faults are:
White: Small chip to column base of Knight. Chips to the top frills of both Castles. One Pawn with loose thread.
Black: Chip to flame on King and Bishop. Loose thread to the other Bishop. Pedestal missing from one Knight. Missing Castle Pennant and two missing Pawns.
Height of WhiteKing: 5 inches (12.5 cm)
The Black King is slightly shorter.
This Chess Set is not available for Export to the USA.
