HAND-PAINTED PORCELAIN MARQUIS DE PIGNEROL DISH. Circa 1880.
This interesting Victorian Porcelain Dish is hand-painted with a portrait of The Marquis de Pignerol, after a painting entitled ‘Arthur and The Marquis de Pignerol’ by George W. Joy (1844-1925). The Marquis tutored Arthur Wellesley, the future Duke of Wellington, in Angers in France in 1787, on military matters.
The Dish bears the hand-painted name ‘Pignerol’ and the initials ‘J.N.’ and the impressed initials ‘F.M.’
The condition is good. There are no cracks, chips or restoration.
