RARE ENGLISH ADAMS STONEWARE WINE BOTTLE COOLER. Circa 1820.
This rare English Dry-Bodied Stoneware Double Wine Bottle Cooler bears the impressed mark ADAMS to the base and dates from circa 1820.
The white stoneware tub, with bands of ribbed brown simulating barrel staves, has two attached cylindrical jars inside. The tub has Classical sprig relief decoration to both sides.
The condition is good with some minor chips to the footrim. There is no restoration. It would originally have been fitted with metal handles through the purpose-made apertures at either end.
A similar Water Bottle Cooler, made by Turner and an exhibit in Liverpool Museum, is illustrated in Diana Edwards and Rodney Hampson’s ENGLISH DRY-BODIED STONEWARE 1774-1830 Page 188.
