THOMAS FORESTER ENGLISH MAJOLICA CHEESE DOME. Circa 1880.
This colourful English Majolica Cheese Dome, sometimes known as a Cheese Bell or Stilton Dish, is decorated with birds and water lilies with an anthemion border.
It probably comes from the Thomas Forester Factory in Longton, Staffordshire and dates from around 1880. The design and colours indicate this attribution. Their wares were rarely marked.
The Dome is in good condition. There is no restoration. There is a small glaze flake and an old, undeveloped chip to the base with some kiln fritting to the top caused during the firing process.
