VICTORIAN STAFFORDSHIRE BIRD'S EGG COLLECTING FIGURE. Circa 1860
This delightful Victorian Staffordshire Figure of Three Children in the act of collecting Birds’ Eggs, dates from circa 1860.
One young lad, at the base of the tree, is supporting the Egg Collector on his shoulders. The young girl beneath is holding out her pinafore to catch ‘the spoils’. A bright yellow bird is perched on a nearby branch poised to attack and protect its nest. Nineteenth century rural drama at its best.
There is some paint loss and a small underglaze chip to the underside of the bird’s tai, which has occured during the making.
There are no cracks or restoration.
Height: 11.75 inches (30 cm)
