FINE LARGE ROSEWOOD & SATINWOOD FAN SHAPED FRAME. Circa 1900.
This Fine large Inlaid Fan Shaped Frame dates from circa 1900 and shows the Edwardian Craftsman’s love of quality timbers, ingenuity of design and novel appeal.
The Frame is made to resemble an open Folded Fan. The top, with pierced, inlaid and banded detail, is even ‘concertina’ shaped. The Guard Sticks, one of which is made from Satinwood and the other of Rosewood to give a chiaroscuro effect, are both painted with neo-classical designs.
As well as the surface detail, the Craftsman has mimicked the spines and central pivot of a fan in the carved timber.
The Cross Stitch embroidery in the frame, although not original, has been carefully designed and worked to fit the shape. This could be removed.
The condition of good.
