JOAN RIDLEY SLAZENGER 8 TENNIS RACKET PRESS 1920/30

£685.00

SKU: 2052

A rare opportunity to purchase the Mahogany Slazenger Tennis Racket Press of Miss Joan C. Ridley, British Tennis Player in the 1920s and 30s.  At the height of her career she reached the Mixed Doubles Final at Wimbledon in 1929.

The Press, which holds 8 Rackets, bears her initials JR in gilt and Luggage Labels, including White Star Line, bearing her name.  There are 7 dividing boards, leather handle and three screws and nuts.

A brief search on-line revealed a Getty Image of Miss Ridley holding a pristine 8 Racket Press at Waterloo Station prior to departure for the USA in 1933.  Copyright restrictions prevent me from showing it in this listing.

There are two Rackets included, both stamped with the initials JOM (Joan O’Meara) following her marriage in 1935.

Also included are two original Studio Photographs of Miss Ridley taken by NAVANA Ltd of London.  One is framed, both have old water damage, mainly to the mounts.

Dimensions of Press:

Height:  15.5 inches (39.5 cm)

Width:  12 inches (30 cm)

Delivery within Mainland UK is included.  We ship Worldwide.  Please enquire for a quote.
