LARGE ‘DEAR JACK’ SUNDERLAND LUSTRE JUG c1830

This Large Georgian Sunderland Lustre Jug dates from circa 1830.

It is decorated with transfer prints entitled Masons’ Arms and Farmers’ Arms to the sides.  Beneath the spout is a humorous parody on Jonathan Swift’s famous verse:

It is a maxim in the schools

   That women always dote on fools

If so, dear Jack, I’m sure your wife

Must love you as she does her life

The Jug is well drawn.  There is an old hairline to the side which is photographed from the inside.  There is no restoration.
