17th CENTURY OAK WAINSCOT CHAIR

This generously proportioned English Oak Wainscot Chair dates from the latter half of the 17th Century. It is of good colour and patination and stands well. Beautifully simple original carving to the top rail with light decoration to the tops of the arms.
The Chair has the additional interest of a small engraved plaque fixed to the back. It states the Chair was given as a gift to Sir George Masterman Gillett JP in 1937. This illustrates a short part of this Chair’s journey from the 1600s to the present day.
Over the years it has developed a few creaks and there are some repairs to the seat.
