This Caneware Game Pie Dish dates from circa 1860. It is decorated with fern leaves and foliage with the handle formed as a Game Bird,
During the 19th Century, when flour was in short supply, these Dishes were made to resemble Pie Crust. A simple stew could then be transformed into a fine looking Homemade Pie when taken to the table.
Condition: Two small chips to the rim, a hairline running down the seam for approximately 2 inches (5 cm) and the Game Bird handle has been reattached to the cover at some t8me.
This particular Dish has been very well decorated with sharp definition and displays well.
