CHINESE PORCELAIN BOMBE COMMODE BOUGH POT QIANLONG
£1,925.00
This Chinese Porcelain Bough Pot, in the form of a Bombe Commode, dates from the Qianlong Period (1736-1795). It is colourfully decorated and highlighted with gilt.
Bough Pots were used for growing bulbs without soil. After filling the Pot with water, nearly to the top, the bulbs were rested in the openings in the top, making sure they did not touch the water beneath. The roots would then start to sprout and eventually spread down into the water and thence to nourish the bulb and encouraging it to flower,
There is a small chip to the back bottom corner and a minor chip to the back top edge. Some rubbing to the gilt and minor paint loss. There is no restoration.
