GEORGIAN ROGERS BLUE & WHITE ‘ATHENS’ FOOT BATH c1830

£485.00

SKU: 2083

This grand and fine example of Rogers’ Blue and White Transfer Ware dates from circa 1830.

This Foot Bath, of bold, confident design, was made by John Rogers and Son (1815-1842) of Dale Hall, Longport, Staffordshire Potteries.

The base bears their impressed name and the name of the pattern ‘Athens’.  Set within a border of flowers and scrolls, the crisp, clear print shows Classical Ruins in a pastoral scene.

The Foot Bath has a generous, bulbous belly, shaped rim and strong, ornate handles.

There is obvious damage.  There are old chips to the edge, star cracks to the base and a horizontal crack to the side.  The handles are underaged and the whole is in a stable condition and can be handled confidently.  There is no restoration.
If the Foot Bath is to be used to hold flowers or plants I would recommend a liner is used.

A beautiful piece which displays magnificently.  In true Country House condition,
