PRIMITIVE WATERCOLOUR W. SKINNER AUCTIONEER CHATHAM
£385.00
This interesting Primitive Watercolour of a well-dressed Gentleman, seated beneath a bower, bears a handwritten paper label which states:
“My Grandfather W. Skinner, my Mother’s Father, Auctioneer of Chatham. Gravestone stands among the outside of Chatham Churchyard – now a resting place.”
The painting would appear to date from around 1860-1880. The Auctioneer’s Directory of 1860 lists two Auctioneers by the name of Skinner in Chatham – Skinner J and Skinner J T. These could be relatives of this Gentleman.
The Watercolour is in its original, unrestored condition with, what appears to be, the original frame, mount and glass.
