RARE DON POTTERY BLUE & WHITE TUREEN, STAND & COVER c1820

This beautifully-shaped Antique Blue and White Transfer Printed Tureen, Stand and Cover was made at the Don Pottery (1790-1834), Swinton near Rotherham, Yorkshire around 1820.

It is decorated in their Named Italian Views Series Pattern.

The Tureen has a View from the Augustini on one side and Brundisium (now Brindisi) to the other.  Hidden away in an arched Wallis the name Don.

The Stand shows The Grotto of St. Rosalie near Palermo.

The Cover is  decorated with 2 unnamed scenes.

The borders have images of Putti which was a popular motif of this Pottery.

Special attention is drawn to the wonderful Lion’s Mask handles on the Stand.

Condition:  The overall condition is good.  There are no repairs or restoration.  There are a few small, old, surface chips to the edges which are seen in the photographs.  There are also two or three short, old hairlines.

A stunning Tureen which displays beautifully.
